3 Important Reminders to Keep Your Exercise Equipment Going

Exercising properly and regularly is necessary to remain fit and healthy. Discipline and dedication comes along with it. Those who are into the workout life, buying a number of exercise equipment is a pleasure, and taking care of them is a sweet delight.

Exercise equipment, from the smallest to the biggest ones in size, are precious since they are expensive and they really function well. Treadmills, dumbbells, bench presses, foam rollers, yoga blocks and other exercise equipment perform their functions unless the owner uses them carelessly and don’t take care of them properly.

If you are an exercise equipment owner or are planning to start buying soon, below are some important reminders you can start off with when taking care of your exercise equipment.

#1: IT’S NOT A TOY.

Kids often see exercise equipment as toys since they look interesting, fun and one of a kind. Sometime big exercise equipment look like rides, namely treadmills and spin bikes. Some toys are also made alike with some gym equipment such as the hanging bags and medicine balls.

Although they have a resemblance, exercise equipment should not be treated as toys. If kids go to your house or if you have kids, don’t let them recklessly play with your fitness equipment. You can let them try them for a little while only especially if your equipment has age limits – not for young kids.

Letting kids play with them will make them think that these special materials are just toys they can play with and destroy anytime. Also, they might get hurt if they get close, rock and play with them. If exercise equipment are not taken seriously and are used unmindfully and irresponsibly, their life span and their toughness will get affected.

#2: THERE’S A DESIGNATED CLEANER.

You must clean your exercise equipment thoroughly. First, because they get dusty; second, because they get your body oils, sweat and even your saliva. It’s both nasty and unhealthy to use them without tidying them up because the dirt just revolves between you and your gears.

Be it known unto you that there are proper cleaning substances sold, bought and used for specific exercise equipment. Wipe them well with proper wipers and cloths safe for their material. White fabric is preferable to avoid staining and discoloration. Rough stuff will scratch and scrape off paint and coating especially if pressed on forcibly. Avoid hard bristle brushes.

Don’t use products with harsh chemical content such as acetone, solvents, ammonia and the like. The powder coating of your apparatuses might get damaged and the upholstery might dry out.

#3: CHECKING ON THEM IS A MUST.

Just because your exercise equipment seem durable and timeless doesn’t mean you will just let them get old with time as you use them every now and then. Especially if you let other people use them, check on them from time to time before and after every use. In that way, you will easily determine if there are any defect such as loose screws, dislocated pedals, broken wires, cracked portions and other damaged or unusual movements.

This is for your safety and the safety of all the other people who use those exercise equipment. Also, it’s for good maintenance of your gym gears so that they will last long and be more useful for you in the long run. It’s not something you should do only when you’re bored or not busy, but it is a must.
